Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) Match 16 IPL 2024.
The
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) amassed a formidable total of 272 for seven against
the Delhi Capitals (DC). This score stands as the second-highest team total in
the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) history, surpassing Royal Challengers
Bengaluru’s 263 from the 2013 edition. This victory marked KKR's third win in
as many matches in the 2024 season.
The KKR batsmen captivated the crowd with their exhilarating performance. Just a week prior, in Hyderabad, the home team had set a record score of 277 in Tata IPL history. As the game progressed, KKR threatened to rewrite the record books but fell short, with Ishant Sharma bowling a good final over.
Sunil Narine, the top-scorer, started slowly, opening his account off his sixth delivery with a single in the second over. However, he quickly picked up the pace, hitting a four off Khaleel Ahmed in the
third over. The real onslaught began in the fourth over when Narine scored 26 runs off Ishant Sharma. He seemed unstoppable, whether facing short or full deliveries, clearing the infield with ease. DC missed a chance to dismiss Narine early, as an edge off Ishant's bowling wasn't given out due to a late
review request.
Anrich Nortje provided a breakthrough for DC by dismissing Phil Salt in the following over. However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, batting for the first time in an IPL match, made an impressive debut, hitting boundaries off his first few balls. The partnership between Narine and Raghuvanshi was a study in contrast, with Narine's aggressive T20 style complemented by Raghuvanshi's proper technique and touch play.
Raghuvanshi showcased his innovation with a reverse scoop for six off Rasikh Salam in the 11th over. Their partnership of 104 runs came off just 48 balls, bringing joy to the fans at the stadium. Narine reached his fifty off only 21 balls, surpassing his previous highest Tata IPL score and continuing his onslaught even after the powerplay.
Raghuvanshi also reached his fifty off 25 balls, setting a great start to his IPL career. However, he was dismissed for 54, and Andre Russell's aggressive batting pushed KKR past 200 in the 16th over. Russell's entertaining knock, along with Rinku Singh's quickfire 26 off eight balls, further added to DC's misery. Despite Ishant's good performance with the ball, DC's bowlers struggled, and they eventually lost the match by 106 runs.
Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs fought back with a partnership, but once they were dismissed, KKR comfortably sealed the deal. DC's reply began shakily, losing four wickets in the powerplay. Vaibhav Arora, the Impact Player for KKR, played a crucial role, taking three wickets for 27 runs. Mitchell Starc and Varun Chakaravarthy also contributed to KKR's victory.
